To appreciate summer, we have to know cold. To appreciate good times, we need to know lows. Tonight’s talk is about our theme, winter wonderland and learning how to see the wonder in the winter. Winter for many brings sickness, chills and a desperation for warmth. Life brings many winters, many disappointments and unproductive, difficult winters of suffering. We all face it. But from every winter, from every low God is able to produce a positive. It is because of winter that we can appreciate the warmth, the blessings, the summer.
Many people suffer: good people, bad people, Christians, everybody suffers. No one is exempt. The most perfect, pure human suffered more than any of us can ever imagine. He knows suffering. He knows the winter well. Job, Paul, Ruth, a woman with cancer, a family experiencing loss, your closest friend, we all have experienced suffering and some extreme periods of winter. But knowing the joy of the Lord helps bring wonder to our situations. Anne shared a story of a dear friend who while being extremely sick in hospital found the time to get out of bed to encourage another friend in hospital. It is about seeing the wonder amongst the winter. Some may experience summer again, or maybe others stay in the period of winter a little longer, he will not leave you there, he will be your warmth by the fire throughout it. No matter how cold your winter is, or how long is prolongs, the joy of the Lord will always be your wonderland. There is always wonder amongst the winter.
