Windsor District Baptist Church (WDBC) held their annual Carols on the Lawn event for the local community on Sunday 11th December. The original plan was for the carols to be held outside but due to rainy weather it was brought inside and informally called Carols on the Carpet. Despite the change of plans, it did not put off the approximately 900 people who came along to enjoy this free event. As the gates opened at 6pm, families wandered in to claim their space, setup their picnic blankets and chairs and purchase a sausage sizzle while enjoying some music played by the Hawkesbury District Concert Band. There was also a chance to meet St John’s Ambulance and the local Rural Bush Fire Brigade.
The carols kicked off at 7pm led by the WDBC church band. Fleecy the sheep came along to share in some singing, dancing and lollies! The crowd was then treated to a special rap song and dance performance from the kids of the Treehouse Kids Club, and given an opportunity to support Emergency Relief which provides very practical help to struggling families in the Hawkesbury. The Kuyper Christian School band played two items one being a rock version of Carol of the Bells. Two “volunteers” from the audience performed a comical rendition of The Twelve Days Of Christmas acted out with various props, most notably two raw chickens! Lots of caroling was enjoyed by all and when the WDBC church band and the Hawkesbury District Concert Band joined to play some carols, it all sounded fantastic.
A drama piece was played out to the song One King performed very beautifully by Celeste. It started with the birth of Jesus but more importantly ended at the foot of the cross where all our hopes are fulfilled in Christ. Guest speaker Adrian Buggs shared his story about Christmas and the holiday times focusing on relationships and family and reminded us that it’s a time when God sent his son so that we are also able to have a relationship with him.
The night concluded with a solo of Thorn In The Straw by our very talented Phil and some further carols with the final song Feliz Navidad sung with gusto by all. A big thank you to everyone in the community and the church who shared their time and talents to make the night possible. We hope everyone had a great night sharing the Christmas spirit and we love to see you on Christmas morning at our family service at 9:30am. Please enjoy some photos from the event below, and leave a comment below if you would like to share with us anything about your experience at the carols or contact us if you would like to learn more about WDBC.
