Jonathan Hoffman – Senior Pastor
Jonathan comes to WDBC from the Outback of Bourke, NSW, where he served five years as pastor of the Bourke Christian Church and recently became an Australian citizen. Born and raised in Yorba Linda, California (USA) – birthplace of Richard Nixon – Jonathan left sunny Orange County for the windy city of Chicago to attend Wheaton College as an undergraduate student. Along with earning a bachelor’s degree in political science, there Jonathan more importantly met his beloved wife, Joanna, who would later graduate with a degree in spiritual formation and Christian ministry. In 2004 the couple was married and moved to Washington, D.C., where Jonathan worked as a legal assistant to the Hon. Kenneth W. Starr. A little over a year into their marriage, Jonathan discerned a call to ministry and moved back to Chicago, IL to pursue seminary training for pastoral ministry. Three years later Pastor Jonathan returned to California with two degrees (M.Div, Th.M Church History) and one child (Ellie) to add to their family. After exploring church planting opportunities through an internship with Ambassador Church (Brea, CA), Jonathan followed the Lord’s call to pastor in Bourke, NSW Australia. Entering their 11th year of marriage, Joanna and Jonathan now have four children, with the Lord adding three boys (Elijah, Joshua, and Noah) to change their small family into a large one. After spending time with his family, Jonathan enjoys sport (NFL, NBA), news, and technology.
Asked to describe his style of leadership, Jonathan answered, “I would call myself a Shepherd at heart who leads in a Coach style; someone who shares vision for God’s Kingdom with prophetic urgency. He then added, “I hope to encourage others to see what God can do through them because of what He has already done for them in Christ.”
Jonathan and Joanna hold a firm conviction that the Lord has called them to Windsor District Baptist Church. Together with them we look forward to seeing God’s work unfold in and through us here at WDBC. Thank you for continuing to journey with us after Christ!
Jeffrey Buster – Associate Pastor
Jeffrey comes to Windsor with seven years of experience in ministry settings focusing on Spiritual formation: creating effective curriculums, organising teams of people with a clear vision, and preaching and performing pastoral care to the body of Jesus Christ. His experience in pastoral care is aided by a double major in Spiritual Formation and Ministry and Biblical studies along with graduate coursework in spiritual counselling. Graduate degrees in Biblical and Theological studies allow him to offer thoughtful and Biblically-based teaching and preaching. During a two-year residency and ordination at College Church in Wheaton, IL, he trained in day-to-day pastoral duties such as performing weddings, facilitating funerals and counselling for a church with 2000 plus members. His last position at Lookout Mountain Community Church saw him share preaching responsibilities with the lead pastor on a biweekly basis as well as develop and teach small group curriculum.
Jeffrey’s passion is walking with Christ’s body, the church, in order to help them have a deeper and more powerful relationship with Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. His vision is to see people recognise their daily need for God’s salvation; relying on the Spirit’s power to understand the Scriptures, practice faith, and speak that salvation to each other. Serving alongside the Senior Pastor, Jeff will concentrate his ministry upon discipleship, evangelism, and mentoring the youth/children’s ministry leaders. Along with Jeffrey, we eagerly welcome his wife, Aubrey Buster (PhD candidate, Old Testament, Emory University) and their young son, Malcolm.
