With: Reimagining the Way you Relate to God by Skye Jethani

Review by Joanna Hoffman

I am notorious for starting but not finishing books. So this current lockdown has provided the perfect opportunity for "finishing". I quickly made a list of books that I had started in some capacity and easily got to 9 before stopping! (I'm sure there are more.) I hope to share a brief review of some books I have finished in case you have an interest in picking up some reading during this time too.

HAVE YOU BEEN READING? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN ENJOYING!

"With" was a powerful little book bringing us back to the crux of our relationship with God. Author, Skye Jethani, suggests that at the heart of all religion is our natural human desire to assuage our fears and embrace control. But she keeps her discussion within the Christian framework and articulates four ways we may live attempting to connect to God that really only foster our fears and reveal our attempts to control our lives.

Jethani suggests we may live life UNDER God; look for life FROM God; choose life OVER God, or seek identity by living life FOR God. As she extrapolates these concepts we learn how easily God can be moved from the center of our heart, keeping Him in the conversation, while actually pursuing our own goals. Jethani not only encourages but inspires us to embrace life WITH God, pursuing Him as our primary and ultimate goal. Her closing chapters offer a powerful analogy of a truly fearless and free life of Faith, Hope and Love, available only through life WITH God.
