Culture's Weet-Bix

this week at windsor E-News

"Culture eats strategy for breakfast" is a phrase (attributed to Peter Drucker) used to describe the proportionally greater power of culture to influence change than calculated manoeuvres. That is not to say strategy is unimportant, but focus on our culture.

Our vision at WDBC is "to see all people transformed by God's Word and Spirit for faith in Jesus Christ." This is a lofty goal and holy aspiration rooted in the power of the gospel (Romans 1:16). But having a vision and realising that vision are different things.

So where do we start, if we aim to see a wave of transformation? Some key leaders joined Pastor Chris and I in early 2022 as we embarked on a 2 year training in Building a Discipling Culture. The aim of this endeavour is to reverse the trend of a "seven-decade" long decline of Christianity in Australia

Over the next several weeks you'll be hearing more about how we pursue this vision of gospel transformation, but one thing to highlight from the outset is this: people change as they embrace (by faith) a new identity as disciples of Jesus.

Discipleship is more than the transfer of information. As one of our trainers, put it, "Discipleship is the journey through which we learn the values and culture of our new family -- the Kingdom, not the democracy -- of God."

Discipleship is more than the transfer of information.

Our vision at WDBC is immaterial without building a discipling culture, where we collectively value trust in Jesus and radical obedience to his teaching and his ways.
