Church In Lockdown

Bye-bye, July!
You came as quick as you went,
with time so often ill-spent
scrolling and rolling,
COVID controlling
circles we used to frequent.

Bye-bye, July!
Can’t wait to see you again,
hopeful yet uncertain when
lockdowns are lifted,
freedoms re-gifted,
we’ll cherish a breath given.

Bye-bye, July!
Though bland, you’ve come to remind:
Souls who are justly confined
by ruin and sin
to Law’s restriction,
for freedom unceasingly pine.

Bye-bye, July!
Your winter almost is passed;
’clipsing the shadow death cast,
the sky will be torn,
scarred-one reborn,
in joy He returns un-masked.

Bye-bye, July!
Soon we meet Him in the sky!

Hey there, Windsor District Baptist Church! As we embrace the challenges of living through an ever-changing pandemic, I wanted to remind you of this simple truth: God is faithful. He keeps his promises and continues his good work. As God’s kingdom is unshakeable, so too is our future. We are secure in Christ.

Even so, we face challenging days and it is important we meet these days with courageous faith.

In her book, On Reading Well, Karen Swallow Prior distinguishes courage (a virtue) from bravery (an impulse) by noting, “Courage is measured not by the risk it entails, but by the good it preserves,“ (p.88).

In times of great uncertainty and darkness, courageous faith is unmistakable. Some will retreat. Some will succomb or shrink. But God’s people take heart and work out their faith in righteousness — or in Prior’s words, “preserve the good.”

Our mode may have changed, but the mission remains: seek God’s good Kingdom.

A Plan: Church In Lockdown

For us as a minsitry staff, this means continuing to encourage and equip God’s church, even as conventional methods of doing ministry have to change. So what’s our approach? We want to create avenues for the brothers and sisters to engage from home.

Our plan is to create a “digital-space” each weekday for people to be encouraged in their faith and equipped to serve the Lord. This is in addition to WDBC Small Groups, which are also meeting during this time. We are not expecting people to attend all of these. Rather, consider it an opportunity to connect on a time or topic that suits you.

Here’s the breakdown for our sessions each week. Click on the name next to the event and you can email the leader for Zoom details or other questions.
