Happy Returns

Greetings Church Family,

I’m officially back – well most of me anyway.  Six weeks ago I underwent a chop-n-change to acquire a new artificial right hip.  Before proceeding let’s get a few questions out of the way:

Yes, I am recovering well.  Isn’t modern medicine a blessing?!

Yes, I missed you all.  Thanks for your care and for giving me space to recuperate.

Yes, I am feeling old.  Middle-age didn’t knock and wait for me to answer; he just let himself and made a cup of tea.

Words do poor justice to the appreciation I have for you all.  I’ve been buoyed by your prayers, your cards, your messages, your meals, and your thoughtful gifts (special shout-out to the brother who bought me a Lego Dodge Charger to build with my boys – what a great memory to share in a painful time!).  You’ve been graciously devoted to me and to our family.

Special commendation goes to our church leadership, the elders and deacons, who managed some difficult matters in my absence.  And to all our staff – be they ministry, admin, intern or volunteer –you have my gratitude and well-earned respect.  Thanks for keeping the good work going!

Stephen’s messages were a great blessing to me as I was recovering and participating online from home.  I’m glad the congregation got to hear the Lord’s voice through his Spirit-filled teaching.

It’s amazing to see all that’s been done since I’ve been away.  From the completion of the carpark to the upgrading of the auditorium, significant hours and resources have been devoted to this ministry facility.  This reveals to me our collective confidence that Christ is advancing His Kingdom here in the Hawkesbury through us at WDBC.

Finally, if you happen to catch up with my lovely wife, Joanna (our Minister of Community Life), give her a huge “thanks” for keeping me safe and sane, all whilst managing family, work and ministry!

I’ll leave it at that for now, but look forward to sharing a bit more with you later this week.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through Jesus Christ our Lord,
