The Paradox of Easter

Faith is living with tension.

  • Seeing the Kingdom of God is near but not fully visible

  • Knowing salvation is secure while pressing on to the end to earn the prize

  • Walking with all who mourn, but strengthened by the Lord’s joy

  • Being filled with the Spirit while pouring out my life as an offering

Easter helps us lean into the contrasts we see and feel. We lament betrayal, pain, humiliation, sacrifice and death as seen in Jesus’ life and our own. But at Easter, we also rejoice in life, resurrection, redemption, power and victory through our risen Lord Jesus given to us. We weep at night but joy comes in the morning.

We embrace both sorrow and joy this Easter season at WDBC as we walk with Jesus.

Lament

Stations of the Cross

& Good Friday

Through both of these opportunities, we are invited to mourn and reflect with Jesus in his crucible moments.

Stations of the Cross is an individual guided reflection of the last few hours of Jesus’ life before he went to the cross. There will be clear instructions knowing that this might be a new reflective experience for some. The hope for this opportunity is to offer space to slow down, reflect and cherish our Lord who walks with us in all of our life experiences.

Our Good Friday service similarly offers the occasion for corporate reflection, prayer and teaching about Jesus’ sacrifice.

Celebration

Sunday Worship

& Feast

On Easter Sunday we will gather together again to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection life and victory. There is hope and peace available to us through Jesus because the night does come to an end.

Everyone is invited as we celebrate together feasting, breaking bread, and enjoying the true fellowship we have only through Jesus Christ our Risen Lord and His victorious Spirit within us.

Offering

Look outward

& Serve together

Jesus lived his whole life on earth receiving love, purpose, provision, and comfort from his Father. And out of this abundant provision, he freely gave his life so that we too can have the same love, purpose, provision and comfort. We are invited to similarly find great joy in giving abundantly out of all that we have received.

You might consider offering yourself, your time and your resources in response to all that Jesus offers you in one of these ways!

  • Invite someone who might need a friend and a family with you to our celebration feast because Jesus offers family and belonging to all who believe in him.

  • Reconcile an old friendship through forgiveness as Christ did for us.

  • Bring a large donation to the church for spreading generosity because Jesus was generous in giving us every spiritual blessing.

  • Spend time with church family doing something like feeding the homeless, helping out flood victims or something like that in the area. Just like Jesus broke into our world and helped us.

  • Go out in twos or threes for street evangelism together as Jesus came to do so.

I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
— John 10:10
