The Way of Discipleship

this week at windsor e-news

Do you want to be a disciple of Jesus? Sounds like a Sunday School question doesn't it! "Well of course I want to be a disciple of Jesus" you say. That's the right answer isn't it? It's the answer we are supposed to give.

To become a disciple of Jesus we need to observe Him. I encourage you to read the gospel stories. Matthew, Mark, Luke & John all record for us the interactions of Jesus with His first disciples. As you read, ask yourself how Jesus trained his disciples. It's fascinating how quickly Jesus moved the disciples from being listener & learners to being missionaries.

In Luke 9, Jesus calls the 12 together and sends them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God. Imagine you are a disciple of Jesus now. Are you willing and ready to go into the streets around you and the suburbs in our region and proclaim God's Kingdom?

The way of discipleship is to observe Jesus at work, and then to follow His invitation to JOIN Him in His work

Perhaps many of us, although with some anxiety would be willing to give it a go, if Jesus were to stand before us and send us with this mission. But this is only a part of what they were sent to do.

The way of discipleship is to observe Jesus at work, and then to follow His invitation to JOIN Him in His work.

Jesus gives them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. Does that sound scary! Do you feel as inadequate as I feel? Yet in Luke's account the disciples had already seen Jesus heal a paralytic, cast out demons, raise a widow's son from the dead and calm a raging storm.

Who might you share the good news of Jesus with this week?
